Motlow State President Torrence named to Berkeley College Online Advisory Board
Motlow State President Dr. Michael Torrence was recently selected as a member of the Berkeley College Online Advisory Board. The selection is the latest in a growing list of significant national recognition of Torrence’s leadership and expertise in using technology to enhance student success.
The Online Advisory Board will commence its first meeting in June and was created to provide a collaborative resource so that each member institution can gain insights and greater perspectives. Mindful of the many obligations and commitments in which the advisory board members are involved, meetings will be conducted online via Zoom.
“We’re in the ever-evolving world of distance education,” said Sharon Goldstein, Campus Operating Officer, Berkeley College Online. “With quality as our focus, I expect that we will share ideas, feedback and guidance on the initiatives we are pursuing and those which lie ahead. We will operate virtually like a think tank.”
Since arriving as Motlow’s seventh president in May 2018, Torrence has led the College to its current ranking as the top performing college in Tennessee. In addition, he has been appointed to multiple boards, including the Western Governors University (WGU) Tennessee advisory board and the Online Learning Consortium board. He recently became one of only 25 two-year college presidents worldwide to receive the Phi Theta Kappa Paragon Award, recognizing his commitment to student success.
“Motlow State has been one of the fastest growing colleges in Tennessee for more than three years. That is due in great part to our commitment to accessibility and equity. That commitment means delivering instruction in new and meaningful ways,” said Torrence. “We have been leaders in growing online access to higher education. However, just being online is not enough. Being named to the Berkeley College Online Advisory Boards gives us a collaborative group of colleagues that will help us invent, launch, and assess ways to leverage technology to make online learning powerfully engaging.”
Berkeley College is a private for-profit college founded in 1931 with campuses in New York and New Jersey. It is regionally credited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees along with certificate programs.
