Motlow presents renowned speaker and author Tawan Perry

 Tawan Perry

Motlow State Community College is sponsoring internationally renowned speaker and award-winning author Tawan Perry to share a series of student success presentations on Sept. 10, 11 and 12, as part of Motlow’s Weeks of Welcome (WOW). Perry’s workshops focus on transitioning into college and maintaining wellness.

Perry speaks from his own experience as a student who enrolled in a local community college and struggled academically. With hard work and persistence, he eventually graduated and was awarded a full academic scholarship. From that point forward, he has never looked back, and has dedicated his life’s work to help students successfully navigate the rigors of college.

"High schools pass out diplomas to graduates, but no one passes out a standard blueprint, which details a direct path leading to successful college graduation," said Perry. “I try to tell students the stuff that you won’t find in admission brochures, before they need to know it.”

After years of his own academic pursuits and professional experience at several schools, Perry placed his acquired knowledge where his heart is - in the hands of students, with the goal of supporting their own exploration of higher education options. In line with that goal, his fun workshops stress the importance of getting connected, staying connecting, and graduating from college.  As one of the few professional speakers committed exclusively to this niche, Perry has established a national reputation as a student-success and leadership expert who has the keys to unlock college success.

“Tawan Perry can inspire a diverse student population. All students can glean valuable insights and start the college year off right with increased confidence that their educational goals are indeed obtainable,” said Kirsten Moss-Frye, Motlow dean of students.

Over the years, Perry has provided over 300 presentations to schools such as North Carolina State University, Texas A&M, Kent State University, University of California Riverside, Eastern Wyoming College, University of Hawaii Hilo, and Saint Leo’s University.
